What is Mylar?

Mylar is made from PET, a form of polyester. The metallized form is coated with aluminium oxide and is used in different applications including spacecraft reflectors, thermal blankets, helium balloons and hydroponics. It is lightweight and can be cut, scored, burned, melted and stitched.
